Local groups

Body Positive

A Cheshire based charity working for and with anyone who has had issues with, or wants to improve, their sexual health or has questions about their sexuality. Their aim is to make it as easy as possible for you to protect your sexual health and live your life to the fullest.

MaccPride

Macclesfield Pride founded and host the annual pride festival in Macclesfield. You can contact the group via their website.

 

Support for older LGBT people

Silver Rainbows

Silver Rainbows is a social network for older lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people in Cheshire. It is being supported by Body Positive and they want to include as many people as possible. They hold regular social activities as well as maintaining an online social network (and they need your help to help them grow!). 

 

Support for local LGBT children and young people

Utopia Crewe

Utopia is a LGBTQ+ youth group held in Crewe for fun, friendship, advice and support. It provides information for young people on a range of topics including: LGBTQ+ rights; legal issues surrounding gender transition; signposting for specialist support (e.g. counselling or Proud Trust) and supporting and mentoring others. Families/parents of LGBTQ+ young people are also given information on other partners who can offer them support such as Mermaids.

Utopia Macclesfield

Utopia is a youth group in Macclesfield for young LGBT people aged 13-19 years. Utopia offers a safe, non-judgemental and caring environment that offers youth activities such as art and crafts, indoor games and dance. The club is a closed club so contact will need to be arranged in advance.

National Helplines

Stonewall

Stonewall was founded in 1989 by a small group of people who had been active in the struggle against Section 28 of the Local Government Act. They provide information and support for LGBT communities and their allies. They are here to let all lesbian, gay, bi and trans people, here and abroad, know they're not alone.

Switchboard

Information and links to services and guidance for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals. A safe space for anyone to discuss anything, including sexuality, gender identity, sexual health and emotional well-being. They support people to explore the right options for themselves. They aspire to a society where all LGBT+ people are informed and empowered.

National Trans 24h Helpline

An organisation that supports anyone who is trans, intersex, questioning and non-binary. They offer support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, offering a listening ear and tailored support.

Mindline Trans+

An emotional and mental health support helpline for anyone identifying as transgender, non-binary or genderfluid. They also support family members, friends, colleagues and carers.

LGBT Foundation

Formerly known as The Lesbian & Gay Foundation. A national charity delivering a wide range of services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) communities. They provide a wide range of support and services including: a national helpline; sexual health testing and support; free mental health and wellbeing services; the Village Angels volunteers; support groups and advice for tackling LGBT hate crime and discrimination.
