Brook Street - Wall Repairs

Regular updates on Brook Street wall repairs

The latest update - January 2026

We now have planning permission for the repair and reinstatement of the wall.

We are currently working on developing the design and getting the permits from the Environment Agency to commence works.

Due to the time of year it is unlikely the permits will be granted to allow a start before June 2026.

We have been actively working over the past couple of years to determine the most appropriate remedial design for the river wall and highway bridge, balancing long-term structural stability with heritage preservation wherever possible.

Full planning permission is required for the works. This application has been submitted to Cheshire East Council planning department in August 2025 and is awaiting validation.

Further updates will be provided once a determination date is known.

This means we do not yet have confirmed timescales, and unfortunately, the footpath will need to remain closed until the works are complete.

The final design for the replacement retaining wall is in the process of being finalised for the planning permission submission to Cheshire East. This is forecast to be complete early July.

While this is being determined, consultation with the Environment Agency will commence as it is envisaged permits will be required to work next to the river. At present, works are programmed to commence later on in 2025.

In the meantime, we are conducting weekly safety checks to ensure the site remains safe and secure.
