The Hardship Fund - what it covers?
The Hardship Fund is a designated source of financial support for tenants who are experiencing financial difficulties.

Here’s a quick overview of what the Hardship Fund can cover:
- Rent arrears
- Utility bills (for example where the gas metre has been capped due to debt on the metre)
- Essential repairs or replacements (e.g., white goods)
- Carpets or flooring if no flooring currently
- Skips to support in cases where support is needed for clearing properties or gardens
- Other with the approval of the Head of Neighbourhoods.
Hardship Fund spendings for 25/26 explained
To date, we have spent a total of £35,902.58 from the fund, with 91 successful referrals made.

The Hardship Fund has had a 98.9% success rate in sustaining tenancies this year.
Example of the support we provided
The customer has significant health issues and are also a carer for their young children with disabilities. Their partner works from home to help with caring. They struggle with physical activity, and the dishwasher allowed them to manage the washing up independently and take some pressure off their partner.
As it broke, they couldn't manage this task, and it limited their independence and put extra pressure on their partner, as it was another thing they had to do.
Getting the family a dishwasher helped them to keep managing, as they were always on the edge of being overwhelmed by their circumstances.
What action did we take: referral to the internal hardship fund to pay for a basic dishwasher at £307.
What difference did it make: It gave the customer back independence and control over some household tasks. They told us that it made a positive difference.
