Rural Village Hall gets a much-needed fix-up

Peaks & Plains Housing Trust help to revive Flash Village Hall by fixing it up to be the perfect community hub for the rural village of Flash.

At the beginning of this year, the Macclesfield-based housing trust put out a call to local community groups to find out who needed a helping hand.

From all the nominations, the Trust’s staff voted overwhelmingly to support this cause. They felt they could offer the right skills to make the community hub fit for purpose again.

Jewsons, a building supplier in Hurdsfield, offered their support in the form of materials which meant the Peaks & Plains team were able to:

  • Install a new handrail
  • Clear away the moss on the path making it safe
  • Repair the roof
  • Treat external walls
  • Replace damaged water pipes in the toilets
  • Fit a new light and switches in the main hall
  • Repaint the hall and toilets.

Flash Village Hall Committee member, Sue Whalley, said,

The Peaks & Plains Give and Gain day has been a great success for all at Flash Village Hall.
Your team of volunteers made light work of the various tasks we have been struggling with for months. The variety of skills you provided is every Village Halls dream. They truly are a local version of DIY SOS and it was a pleasure to welcome them to the highest village in Great Britain.
