Peaks & Plains’ new build development will provide a range of stylish one, two- and three-bedroom apartments both for sale and for rent, featuring internal and external areas of communal space.
The site, which has lain derelict since a fire destroyed the mill buildings – collectively known as Georgian Mill – in 2011, is located at the southern edge of Macclesfield town centre. The new development is conveniently located just five minutes’ walk from Macclesfield train station, providing access to direct trains to Manchester and London for commuters.
Tim Pinder, chief executive at Peaks & Plains Housing Trust, said:
The derelict buildings on this brownfield site have been an imposing landmark when approaching the town from Silk Road and a sad reminder of the fire that destroyed it. As a Trust we are extremely committed to the regeneration of Macclesfield Town Centre by encouraging more people to live there. We will start the demolition of Georgian Mill over the next couple of weeks, taking the first steps in building a positive new future for the site and making a start on growing the town centre’s population by providing high-quality, affordable homes.
The demolition process will begin with careful preparation of the site which includes environmental checks and archaeological surveying of the site. Rowlinson Construction will then start the demolition work, with the aim of completing it by the end of June 2019.
