ASB Awareness Week 2025: Stand Together Against Anti-Social Behaviour
This year’s theme, #MakingCommunitiesSafer, encourages individuals to engage within their neighbourhoods and support initiatives that promote safety and well-being.
Understanding ASB
Anti-social behaviour encompasses a range of actions that can cause harassment, alarm, or distress to individuals. Common examples include:
- Vandalism
- Noise disturbances
- Aggressive or intimidating behaviour
- Public intoxication
- Drug misuse
While these behaviours may seem trivial, they can significantly affect the quality of life in our communities, making people feel unsafe in their own neighbourhoods.
What Isn’t ASB?
It is important to note that not all disturbances are classified as ASB. Issues such as property disputes, noise from normal activities, or conflicts between neighbours that do not involve harassment or distress may be addressed differently. However, these concerns should still be reported, as our neighbourhood teams are equipped to assess and resolve a wide range of community issues.
Reporting ASB
This ASB Awareness Week, we urge our customers to play an active role in building safer communities by reporting instances of ASB. Here is how your involvement can make a difference:
- Report Incidents: If you witness ASB, report it to your local authorities, ASB team or Neighbourhood team. Your reports can help identify patterns and areas that require attention.
- Community Engagement: Share information with your neighbours and encourage them to report incidents as well. A united community voice can lead to more effective responses.
- Use Social Media: Utilise hashtags such as #MakingCommunitiesSafer to spread the message and raise awareness of ASB issues in your area.
- Participate in Local Initiatives: Engage with programmes or events. Collaboration can foster a sense of community and drive change.
- Provide Your Details: When reporting ASB, providing your details can enhance the response to follow up. It allows agencies to keep you updated and establish patterns of behaviour. There is no requirement for your details to be passed on to the other parties and case officers can discuss resolution methods directly with you.
By taking these small steps, you contribute to creating a safer, more cohesive living environment. Remember, vigilance and communication can lead to meaningful change.
Together, let us stand against ASB and work towards a community where everyone feels safe and supported. For more information on how to report ASB or get involved, contact your local ASB or neighbourhood team.
