Right to buy & right to acquire overview Back

Right to buy

Only tenants who transferred to Peaks & Plains Housing Trust from Macclesfield Borough Council (17 July 2006) may be able to buy their home under the Preserved Right to Buy scheme.

To qualify:

  • You must have been a secure or protected assured tenant for at least three years
  • The property you wish to buy must be your only or main home

Right to acquire

If you became a tenant of Peaks & Plains Housing Trust after 17 July 2006, you may be eligible to buy your home under the Right to Acquire Scheme so long as certain requirements are met.

To qualify:

  • To be eligible to buy you must have spent at least 3 years as a public sector tenant, which can include being a tenant of ours
  • The property must be your only or main home

Please note: Some exclusions apply which are similar to the Preserved Right to Buy scheme, but also because of the property’s location.

Both the above schemes are subject to legislative change at any time.
